Use of Reservoir Sediments to Improve Engineering Properties of Dune Sand in Oman

چکیده
Managing sediments dredged from reservoirs of recharge dams is an environmental issue, however, these can be abundant and economical source fine-grained fill soil. This experimental investigation quantifies the geotechnical properties a reservoir sediment used to improve engineering poorly graded dune sand in Oman. The binary mixes were prepared with different percentages (5, 10, 20, 50, 75, 90, 95%) sand. Laboratory tests such as gradation, consistency limits, compaction, unconfined compression performed measure characteristics mixtures. results showed that maximum dry density increases up content 50% then decreases further increase content. optimum water 17% for pure 22.5% sediment. moisture shows good correlation plastic limit mixture compressive strength substantially 75% sensitive moisture, order stability against mixed 20% sediments. addition improved uniformity coefficient some extent minimum void ratios well. elemental analysis confirms material non-contaminated employed applications sustainable environmentally friendly solution.

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
Identification of Sand Dune Sources in the East Sistan, Iran by Using Mineralogical and morphoscopic Characterization of Sediments
Sedimentation in the dune fields of the Sistan Plain of Iran is the result of deposition of fine-grained sediment downstream of the Helmand River. Due to poor adhesion and low moisture content of soil particles, and the strong renowned Levar wind, dune fields mostly of Barchan and Nebkha types are created. This study aims to assess the physical, morphological and mineralogical characteristics o...

Nowadays, new materials are widely used for improving the bearing capacity of the soils and geosynthetics include the type of these materials which are utilized in this regard. In addition, the geofoam panel type of geosyntethic materials is useful and an alternative for backfill in retaining wall or pavement layers. The present research mainly aimed to investigate sthe effects of geofoam parti...
